Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

Meet Melissa Franklin founder of Visor

Why did you start your business?

I spent over 20 years in product development and marketing for large consumer goods companies. I also witnessed my mother's battle with Stage 4 melanoma cancer. I sought to create a unique, clean, clear sun care product that consumers would love to wear daily, potentially saving and improving people's lives.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our line of clear products. Our best seller is 1.7 oz. bottle that is perfect to be kept in your purse, travel bag, in the car or in your pocket. Perfect for on-the-go!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We are fortunate to have 4 local Westport retailers carry our products, and we are looking to grow into more.

Have you reimagined your small business?

We are constantly learning what our consumers are looking for. The consumer is the most important decision-maker, so we continue to innovate based on their feedback.
